RO - PPIMC
PPIMC founded in 1949 is an Institute of Excellence of the Romanian Academy; it was ranked in the first/second position among the 64 institutes/centres of the Romanian Academy. Human potential: 103 researchers, 12 of them being PhD theses promoters. Scientific expertise: (i) New synthetic polymers; (ii) Chemical modification of natural polymers); (iii) Bioactive and biocompatible polymers; (iv) Solution and solid state properties of polymers and c multicomponent and multifunctional polymeric systems based on natural and synthetic polymers, with targeted application as drug delivery systems systems; (v) Environment protection and energy conservation using polymers, bioseparators and biosensors or bioactive compounds, (vi) thin films and nano-sized materials, optoelectronic and electro-optic devices, lithography or thermally resistant membranes, (iii) multiresponsive polymeric materials. The participation as partner in FP6 projects places the Institute on the first position in Romania: in FP3, the Institute was a partner in 3 projects, in FP5, - in 5 projects, in FP6 - in 3 NoE, 1 IP, 1 Marie Curie Action ToK; 5 COST actions. A special mention has to be made about the RAINS project INCO-CT-2005-017142, which allowed a great progress in its organization and infrastructure. From PPIMC the expertise in nanostructured multifunctional, multicomponent polymer blends and composites will be shared in EOL with the following lab facilities : DSCr; Differential Mechanical Analyser; chns/o analyzer; AFM; NMR ; ft-ir X-ray Diffractrometer UV-Vis Spectrometer; Fluorescence Spectrophotometer; Reometer Bohlin; MO; TEM, SEM; freeze dryer, automatic multipurpose titrator, conductivitymeter, viscometer, turbidimeter, nebulizer Misonix , LbL deposition.

Dr. Cornelia Vasile is associated professor at three universities, one abroad (LAVAL University - Canada), PhD supervisor of 14 PhD students; member of the advisory board of the scientific journals, editor of 9 books, 395 co-authored published papers, 39 patents.She coordinates the research in national and international projects, received national honours as Romanian Academy prix. Expert in nanostructured multifunctional, multicomponent polymer blends and composites. Since 1995 expertise in recycling of plastic waste. Romanian coordinator of CEEPUS Polymer Engineering and Recycling Network and the Materials Recycling Centre of Excellence (FP 5), member of IUPAC Romanian representative for young researchers. Participation in European projects, coordinating 1 of them. Member in management committee of 4 COST actions. Holder of several national and international prizes and honours the most recent the medal for European programs participation.
Dr. Aurica Chiriac senior scientific researcher at Polymeric Materials Laboratory. The scientific interests are: radical polymerization and copolymerization; unconventional in magnetic field and plasma-induced polymerization; combined polymer synthesis techniques; magnetic composites and biopolymers. She coordinates several national projects. She is member of the Romanian Association of Scientists, of the Romanian Polymer Society and of the Romanian Chemical Society, acts as co-organizer and organizer of different national and international meetings. She is co-author of more than 100 papers in international journals, 2 books and more than 30 patents She is in charge with activity of the "Laboratory for characterization of micro- and nanostructures" accredited ISO 17025.
